Peppol messages are sent as an envelope in the SBDH format (Standard Business Document Header). This envelope contains the sender and recipient Peppol ID, as well as the document ID, and the process ID of the embedded file.

The embedded file itself can be provided in different formats such as PEPPOL BIS Billing V3, XRechnung or PEPPOL Order transaction 3.0.
