Integration of BIS Front End

Integration of BIS Front End

The BIS Front End is your user interface for operating your BIS system, the BIS Portal is your user interface for operating the iPaaS system. For the integration of the BIS Front End in the iPaaS system, you can use a stand-alone installer.

Information: If you have not worked with the BIS Front End before, we strongly recommend to take one of our training courses: BIS 6 Basics and BIS 6 Advanced.

> Training courses

The stand-alone BIS front-end installer is provided for download by SEEBURGER. It is the classic Java/Swing front end without the need to have Java Web Start installed.

The installer is an alternative option because Oracle announced End of Life (EOL) for public updates of Oracle Java, which means Java Web Start installations may become outdated and unsecure. If you do not have a corresponding Oracle subscription for Java on your desktop, it is recommended to consider turning Java Web Start off.

    Properties of the stand-alone installer:

  • It contains all Java classes and the Java virtual machine required to run the BIS Front End.

  • Enabling Java Web Start in the browser is not necessary.

  • The BIS Front End will not be started from a link in the BIS Portal.

  • No local administrative permissions to install software are needed.

  • Each installer contains pre-configured start scripts to connect to the corresponding BIS system.

  • On start-up, the stand-alone BIS Front End will compare the locally installed libraries to the server version and download the current version if necessary.

Information: The Java runtime will be maintained by SEEBURGER and is based on a commercial OpenJDK distribution (Zulu from our technology partner Azul Systems).

    Restrictions of the stand-alone installer:

  • The BIS Front End is only supported on 64-bit Windows systems. The shell script for Linux/Unix is just provided for convenience at your own risk. There might be minor display and font rendering issues.

  • The front-end login cannot be used with browser-based single sign-on modules. You can use the token mechanism of the BIS Front End for easy login.

To streamline this process, SEEBURGER is working on moving all front-end functionality into a Web UI, based on the BIS App Framework (BIS Portal). You will no longer need to use BIS Front End on a regular base then.
